Historical Wound Management with Vinegar


Vinegar has been known to have antiviral, antimicrobial, and antibacterial properties. There are a few historical reports of vinegar being used to clean wounds. Hippocrates (420 B.C.) has been reported to have used vinegar to keep wounds clean and avoid infection. Anthony Sung Tse was a 10th century doctor of forensic medicine and claimed that washing hands with vinegar and sulfur would help prevent infection after performing autopsies. Reports have also shown that through history, vinegar was used in various treatments of all sorts of medical problems.
